Packaging for a boutique chocolate block, showcasing the Dominican Republic, where the cacao beans were sourced from, and considering sustainability during all stages of production. The substrate specified is compostable, and combined with eco-friendly inks and embossing, this package can be returned to the earth without harming the planet.

I was keen to create a typographic solution for this project which lead to me creating the typeface myself. While researching hand-painted signs in the Dominican Republic, I was inspired by the signs for bars, market stalls and businesses as well as the colours of buildings and fading paint.

The colours were chosen to depict both the man-made and the natural surroundings in the Dominican Republic, with the coral talking back to the weatherboard houses and the dark green inspired by the lush plant life. I created a repeat pattern that captures the essence of the people’s love and respect for nature.
